The Founder of Special Basketball Education of Jump Ball of Love, Mr. Ioannis Tsoumpris, hadthe honor and pleasure of delivering a lecture to the students of the School of Physical Education and Sport Science (SPESS) at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Dafni, as part of the course “Inclusion of Students with Disabilities in Physical Education.”
A school with a significant history, valuable contribution, and a distinct identity: the School of Physical Education and Sport Science (SPESS).
The invitation from Professor Mr. Emmanouil Skordilis and Ms. Aikaterini Asonitou, Special Teaching Staff in Adapted Physical Education and Activity, provided an important opportunity to share experiences and knowledge about Special Basketball Education, as well as the challenges that families of children with disabilities face daily.
The interaction with the students was deeply moving.
Their keen interest in every aspect of the discussion, their insightful questions, and their strong desire to understand both the educational approaches and the psychosocial dimension of the lives of children with disabilities highlighted the importance of awareness and proper training for future professionals in Physical Education.
The concerns of parents about their children’s future and the difficulties they face in daily life sparked intense reflection and empathy among the students, confirming the necessity of education and appropriate preparation for those who will engage in Adapted Physical Education.
This meeting was just the beginning.
Educational sessions with Mr. Skordilis and Ms. Asonitou are already being planned for the near future, aiming to deepen both the theoretical and practical approach to the inclusion of children with disabilities in sports.
This experience serves as a reminder that the future of education and social inclusion lies in the hands of young people eager to learn and drive change.
A heartfelt thank you to all the students who participated and contributed with their presence and questions to a unique experience of knowledge and emotional exchange.
