IOANNIS FOKIANOS

Ioannis Fokianos (Athens, 1845 – Athens, 1896) was one of the first Greek gymnasts, author of sports books and an important factor in Greek sports from the 1870s until the end of the 19th century.
The Athens National Gymnasium “Ioannis Fokianos” was founded at the end of the 19th century by John Fokianos and is located in the Zappeion area in Athens opposite the Panathenaic Stadium.
Its facilities include buildings of approximately 1000 m2 of sports areas, offices, changing rooms, warehouses and other auxiliary areas and an open outdoor area of ​​approximately 3 acres with basketball and volleyball courts.
The closed spaces include a 300 m2 hall as well as other smaller rooms that are offered for sports and fitness and are open to all citizens. The gym operates as a Legal Entity under Public Law under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs.
